How to uninstall 1Password on Mac completely
Deleting 1Password takes a minute, but the app leaves its local data, browser helpers, settings and logs in your Library folder. Before you remove that data, make sure your passwords are safe elsewhere: 1Password’s own steps delete the local copy on this Mac, backups included.

- Open MacWashing and choose Uninstaller in the sidebar.
- Click Show Apps and check 1Password in the list.
- Click Remove and confirm. Files that may be yours are listed as Possible and stay unchecked.

Quit and delete 1Password
1Password has no separate uninstaller. Its support site describes these steps:
- Click the 1Password icon in the menu bar and choose Quit. If 1Password isn’t in the menu bar, quit it from the Dock.
- Open Finder › Applications and drag 1Password to the Trash.
- Enter your administrator password if macOS asks for it.
If you only want to start over, 1Password says you don’t need to uninstall it: you can reset it on this Mac instead.
Before you delete the local data
If you use a 1Password account, your vaults are stored on 1Password’s servers, and deleting the app or its local data doesn’t touch them. 1Password advises checking that you can open all your data on another device or at 1Password.com before you remove anything.
If some of your data exists only on this Mac, export it from 1Password first, while the app is still installed. Deleting the folders below also deletes the local backups.
What 1Password leaves behind
All these places are in the Library folder inside your home folder:
~/Library/Group Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.1password— 1Password’s local data and settings, shared by the app and its helpers.~/Library/Group Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits— another 1Password data folder.~/Library/Application Support/1Password— app data, including its caches.~/Library/Containers/com.1password.1password-launcher— the launcher helper.~/Library/Containers/com.1password.browser-supportand~/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.1password.browser-helper— the parts that connect the app to browser extensions.~/Library/Preferences/com.1password.1password.plist— settings.~/Library/Logs/1Password— logs.
If you use 1Password for Safari, don’t delete folders with 1Password for Safari or com.1password.safari in the name: 1Password’s support warns about them.
Remove the leftovers by hand
- In Finder, choose Go › Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), type a path from the list above and press Return.
- Move the folder or file to the Trash.
- Repeat for the other paths.
- Empty the Trash and restart your Mac.
1Password isn’t the only app that leaves files behind: see how to uninstall apps on Mac completely.
Remove the browser extension
Deleting the app doesn’t remove the 1Password extension from your browsers. Remove it in each browser where you installed it:
- Chrome: Extensions › Manage Extensions, find 1Password and click Remove.
- Firefox: Add-ons and Themes, open the options next to 1Password and choose Remove.
- Edge: Extensions, click the three dots next to 1Password and choose Remove from Microsoft Edge.
- Safari: Safari › Settings › Extensions, select 1Password for Safari and click Uninstall.
With MacWashing, it’s one click

The Uninstaller in MacWashing knows the files 1Password creates in your Library folder and removes them together with the app, its launcher and browser helpers included. Folders that may hold your own files are listed as Possible and stay unchecked until you check them yourself.

Questions and answers
Will MacWashing delete my own files when it removes 1Password?
No. The Uninstaller checks only what belongs to the app: its settings, caches, logs and background items. Folders that may hold your own files are listed as Possible and stay unchecked until you check them yourself, and apps go to the Trash by default, so you can put them back.
What if 1Password is still running?
MacWashing waits for it to quit, or quits it at your request, and only then removes its files.
Is it free to uninstall 1Password with MacWashing?
Yes, within the free trial: System Junk and the Uninstaller free up to 25 GB in total, with no account or card needed.
Will I lose my passwords if I uninstall 1Password?
Not if you use a 1Password account: your vaults stay on 1Password’s servers and are still at 1Password.com and on your other devices. Uninstalling removes only the copy on this Mac.
Does deleting the app remove the browser extension?
No. The extension belongs to the browser. Remove it in each browser’s extensions settings.
Can I reinstall 1Password later?
Yes. Download it again and sign in to your 1Password account. Your vaults sync back to the Mac.
