How to uninstall Epic Games Launcher on Mac completely

Epic Games Launcher keeps its data, cache, settings and cookies in several folders of your Library, and the games you installed with it take far more space than the launcher itself. Here is how to remove all of it in the right order. Your account and purchases stay with Epic.

Uninstaller: a list of apps sorted by size with when each was last opened, Google Chrome selected with its app and cache sizes
  1. Open MacWashing and choose Uninstaller in the sidebar.
  2. Click Show Apps and check Epic Games Launcher in the list.
  3. Click Remove and confirm. Files that may be yours are listed as Possible and stay unchecked.

First, uninstall your games in the launcher

Epic recommends uninstalling games through the launcher rather than deleting their files by hand. Do it before you remove the launcher itself, while it can still do this for you.

  1. Open Epic Games Launcher and choose Library in the left column.
  2. Find the game and click the three dots next to its title.
  3. Click Uninstall, then Uninstall again in the window that opens.
  4. Repeat for every installed game.

If Uninstall does nothing, the game may have a paused update: cancel it in the launcher’s download manager and try again.

Delete the launcher

These are the steps Epic gives for removing the launcher on a Mac:

  1. Quit Epic Games Launcher: right-click its icon in the Dock and choose Quit, and quit it in the menu bar too if it has an icon there.
  2. Open Activity Monitor and check that no Epic Games Launcher processes are still running.
  3. Open Finder › Applications and drag Epic Games Launcher to the Trash.

What Epic Games Launcher leaves behind

Then check these places. They are all in the Library folder inside your home folder:

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Epic/EpicGamesLauncher — the launcher’s data.
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Epic/Epic Games — more data from Epic’s apps.
  • ~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher — the cache, including the launcher’s web cache.
  • ~/Library/Preferences/Unreal Engine/EpicGamesLauncher — the launcher’s settings.
  • ~/Library/Cookies/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher.binarycookies — cookies.
  • ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher and ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.epicgames.CrashReportClient — stored web data of the launcher and its crash reporter.

Remove the leftovers by hand

  1. In Finder, choose Go › Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), type a path from the list above and press Return.
  2. Move the folder or file to the Trash.
  3. Repeat for the other paths. If the ~/Library/Application Support/Epic folder is empty afterwards, you can delete it too.
  4. Restart your Mac, then empty the Trash.

Questions and answers

Will MacWashing delete my own files when it removes Epic Games Launcher?

No. The Uninstaller checks only what belongs to the app: its settings, caches, logs and background items. Folders that may hold your own files are listed as Possible and stay unchecked until you check them yourself, and apps go to the Trash by default, so you can put them back.

What if Epic Games Launcher is still running?

MacWashing waits for it to quit, or quits it at your request, and only then removes its files.

Is it free to uninstall Epic Games Launcher with MacWashing?

Yes, within the free trial: System Junk and the Uninstaller free up to 25 GB in total, with no account or card needed.

Will I lose my games if I uninstall the launcher?

Not the games you own: they stay in your Epic Games account, and you can download them again after reinstalling the launcher. Games with cloud saves keep your progress.

Does uninstalling the launcher delete my Epic account?

No. Your account, friends and purchases are kept on Epic’s servers. Deleting the launcher removes only what is on this Mac.

Why should I uninstall games before the launcher?

Games are the biggest part of what the launcher installs. Removing them in the launcher deletes their files properly. Once the launcher is gone, you would have to find and delete them by hand.
