How to uninstall iStat Menus on Mac completely
iStat Menus installs background services with administrator rights next to the app, and keeps settings, caches, logs and a widget in your Library folder. It has its own uninstaller that removes them. Here is how to use it and what to check afterwards.

- Open MacWashing and choose Uninstaller in the sidebar.
- Click Show Apps and check iStat Menus in the list.
- Click Remove and confirm. Files that may be yours are listed as Possible and stay unchecked.
Free trial · macOS 14 or later
Before you start: export your settings
If you might use iStat Menus again, on this Mac or another one, export its settings first: all of them can be exported and imported through the File menu of the iStat Menus window. Keep the exported file outside the Library folder.
Uninstall iStat Menus from its own menu
This is for the version downloaded from bjango.com. It works even after the trial has ended.
- Open iStat Menus.
- In the menu bar, choose iStat Menus › Uninstall.
- Click Uninstall and enter your administrator password if macOS asks for it.
If you already deleted the app, download it again from bjango.com and run the uninstaller from it.
If you have the Mac App Store version
- Open iStat Menus and click the pause button to the right of Global in the top tab.
- Quit iStat Menus and drag it from Finder › Applications to the Trash.
- If you installed the optional helper, also delete
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.bjango.istatmenus.helper.mas.plistand the folder/Library/Application Support/iStat Menus Helper. This needs your administrator password.
What iStat Menus leaves behind
After uninstalling, or if you deleted only the app, check these places. The first ones are in the Library folder inside your home folder:
~/Library/Application Support/iStat Menus 7— iStat Menus’ data.~/Library/Preferences/com.bjango.istatmenus.plist— settings.~/Library/Caches/com.bjango.istatmenus— the cache.~/Library/Logs/iStat Menus 7— logs.~/Library/Containers/com.bjango.istatmenus.iStat-Menus-Widget— the container of the iStat Menus widget./Library/Application Support/iStat Menus 7— system components./Library/LaunchDaemons/com.bjango.istatmenusdaemon.plist— the background service that runs with administrator rights./Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.bjango.istatmenus.installerhelper— the helper that installs those components.
Remove the leftovers by hand
- In Finder, choose Go › Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), type a path from the list above and press Return.
- Move the folder or file to the Trash. Files in
/Libraryneed your administrator password. - Repeat for the other paths.
- Restart your Mac, so the background service is no longer running, then empty the Trash.

With MacWashing, it’s one click

The Uninstaller in MacWashing knows the files iStat Menus creates — in your Library folder and in the system folders — and removes them together with the app, background service and helper included. Folders that may hold your own files are listed as Possible and stay unchecked until you check them yourself.

Questions and answers
Will MacWashing delete my own files when it removes iStat Menus?
No. The Uninstaller checks only what belongs to the app: its settings, caches, logs and background items. Folders that may hold your own files are listed as Possible and stay unchecked until you check them yourself, and apps go to the Trash by default, so you can put them back.
What if iStat Menus is still running?
MacWashing waits for it to quit, or quits it at your request, and only then removes its files.
Is it free to uninstall iStat Menus with MacWashing?
Yes, within the free trial: System Junk and the Uninstaller free up to 25 GB in total, with no account or card needed.
Does the uninstaller work after the trial ends?
Yes. iStat Menus › Uninstall works even when the trial period is over, so you don’t need a license to remove it.
Why does iStat Menus ask for my password when I uninstall it?
It installs a background service and a helper for all users of the Mac, in folders only an administrator can change. Removing them needs the same rights.
Can I keep my settings for later?
Yes. Export them through the File menu before uninstalling, then import the file after you install iStat Menus again, on this Mac or another one.
