How to download and install Logseq on Mac
Logseq is a free, open-source outliner for notes and journals that keeps your graph on your own Mac. Here is which build to download, how Logseq differs from Logseq OG and how to install it.

Logseq
- macOS 12 or later
- Apple Silicon and Intel
- Free, open source
Or the installer straight from the developer’s server:
The links go to the developer’s website (logseq.com, github.com). MacWashing is not affiliated with the developer and keeps no installers.
Open Terminal (Applications › Utilities) and run:
brew install --cask logseqHomebrew downloads the app from the developer’s server, checks the file and puts the app in Applications.
No Homebrew yet? How to install Homebrew: one command from brew.sh.
Which version to download
The download page has separate builds: Download for Apple silicon and Download for Intel chip. To check your chip:
- Choose Apple menu › About This Mac.
- If you see Chip with Apple M1, M2 or later, take the build for Apple silicon. If you see Processor with Intel, take the one for Intel.
Logseq 2.0, the version on the download page, keeps notes in a new graph format instead of Markdown files and is still marked as a beta. If you keep your notes as Markdown files, Logseq OG is the app for you: it continues the file-based version, and its builds are on github.com/logseq/og.
Logseq needs macOS 12 Monterey or later. Download it only from logseq.com: the buttons there take the file from Logseq’s own release page on GitHub.
How to install Logseq

What to set up after the first launch
- Backups. Your graphs are stored on your Mac, not in the cloud. Make sure Time Machine or another backup covers your user folder, especially while Logseq 2.0 is in beta.
- Your old notes. Before importing a Markdown graph, keep a copy of its folder. To go on working with the files themselves, use Logseq OG.
- Plugins. Plugins are code written by other people: install only the ones you trust.
- The installer. Move the
.dmgfrom Downloads to the Trash once Logseq runs.
If Logseq won’t install or open
- «Logseq is damaged and can’t be opened». The download was incomplete. Delete the file and download it again from
logseq.com. - Logseq won’t open on an Intel Mac. You probably took the Apple silicon build. Download the build for Intel.
- Logseq doesn’t start on an older Mac. Check your macOS version in About This Mac: Logseq needs macOS 12 or later.
