How to uninstall Windows App on Mac completely
Windows App is Microsoft’s client for remote PCs, Cloud PCs and Azure Virtual Desktop. It used to be called Microsoft Remote Desktop. Deleting it leaves its folders in your Library folder, and with them the remote PCs you added by hand. Here is how to remove it and what to note down first.

- Open MacWashing and choose Uninstaller in the sidebar.
- Click Show Apps and check Windows App in the list.
- Click Remove and confirm. Files that may be yours are listed as Possible and stay unchecked.

Note your saved PCs first
Cloud PCs, Azure Virtual Desktop and workspaces come from your organization: they appear again when you sign in with your work or school account, or add the workspace URL your administrator gave you. Remote PCs you added yourself are another matter.
- Open Windows App and select Devices.
- Select the ellipses (...) on the card of a PC you added, then select Edit.
- Write down its PC name or address and the settings you changed. Repeat for your other PCs.
Delete Windows App in Finder
Windows App has no uninstaller of its own, so you delete it like most Mac apps.
- End your remote sessions and quit Windows App: right-click its icon in the Dock and choose Quit.
- Open Finder › Applications and drag Windows App to the Trash.
- Enter your administrator password if macOS asks for it.
What Windows App leaves behind
Check these places in the Library folder inside your home folder:
~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.rdc.macos— the app’s own folder: its settings and data.~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.rdc— more Windows App data.~/Library/Application Scripts/com.microsoft.rdc.macosand~/Library/Application Scripts/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.rdc— service folders macOS creates for the app.
The folders UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.oneauth, UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.entrabroker and UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams in ~/Library/Group Containers are shared with other Microsoft apps: sign-in data and Teams data. If you use Office, Teams, OneDrive or Edge, leave them in place.
Remove the leftovers by hand
- In Finder, choose Go › Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), type a path from the list above and press Return.
- Move the folder to the Trash.
- Repeat for the other paths.
- Restart your Mac, then empty the Trash.

With MacWashing, it’s one click

The Uninstaller in MacWashing knows the folders Windows App creates in your Library folder and removes them together with the app. Write down the remote PCs you added first: they are removed with it. Folders that may hold your own files are listed as Possible and stay unchecked until you check them yourself.

Questions and answers
Will MacWashing delete my own files when it removes Windows App?
No. The Uninstaller checks only what belongs to the app: its settings, caches, logs and background items. Folders that may hold your own files are listed as Possible and stay unchecked until you check them yourself, and apps go to the Trash by default, so you can put them back.
What if Windows App is still running?
MacWashing waits for it to quit, or quits it at your request, and only then removes its files.
Is it free to uninstall Windows App with MacWashing?
Yes, within the free trial: System Junk and the Uninstaller free up to 25 GB in total, with no account or card needed.
Does uninstalling Windows App affect my remote PCs or Cloud PCs?
No. It only removes the client from your Mac. The remote computers, Cloud PCs and the files on them stay as they are.
Will my Cloud PCs and workspaces come back if I reinstall?
Yes. Sign in with the same work or school account, or add the workspace URL again, and they appear again. Remote PCs you added by hand have to be added again.
Is Windows App the same as Microsoft Remote Desktop?
Yes. Microsoft renamed Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac to Windows App, so this guide covers both. You can download it again from the Mac App Store.
