Or the installer straight from the developer’s server:

Open Terminal (Applications › Utilities) and run:

brew install --cask transmit

Homebrew downloads the app from the developer’s server, checks the file and puts the app in Applications.

Before you download

Transmit 5 is one file for Macs with Apple Silicon and Intel, and it needs macOS 13 Ventura or later. Check yours in Apple menu › About This Mac.

  • The trial. The download is the full version of Transmit, but it works for 7 days only.
  • The license. To keep using it, you buy an unlock code from Panic, a one-time purchase of $45 plus tax.

Download Transmit only from panic.com. The download is a .zip with the app inside, not an installer.

How to install Transmit

  1. Open the downloaded .zip in your Downloads folder: macOS unpacks Transmit next to it.
  2. Drag Transmit to the Applications folder.
  3. Open Transmit from Applications and click Open when macOS asks about an app downloaded from the internet.
  4. Start the 7-day trial, or enter the unlock code from Panic if you have already bought one.
  5. Add your server: choose its type, such as SFTP, FTP or Amazon S3, enter its address and your login, and connect.

What to set up after the first launch

  • Favorites. Save servers you use often as favorites so you connect with one click.
  • Panic Sync. Turn it on to sync your saved servers securely between your Macs.
  • Access to your folders. The first time Transmit opens Desktop, Documents or Downloads, macOS asks for permission. Click Allow, or change it later in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Files and Folders.
  • The archive. Move the .zip from Downloads to the Trash once Transmit runs.

If Transmit won’t install or open

  • «Transmit is damaged and can’t be opened». The download was incomplete. Delete the .zip and the unpacked app, then download it again from Panic’s website.
  • Transmit doesn’t start on an older Mac. Check your macOS version: Transmit 5 needs macOS 13 or later.
  • Transmit stopped working after a week. The trial has ended: buy an unlock code on Panic’s website and enter it in Transmit.
