How to uninstall Unity Hub on Mac completely

Unity Hub is a small app, but the Unity Editor versions it installs take several gigabytes each and live in a separate folder. Deleting the Hub doesn’t remove them. Here is how to uninstall the Editors first, then the Hub and its leftovers. Your Unity projects are your own folders and stay where they are.

Uninstaller: a list of apps sorted by size with when each was last opened, Google Chrome selected with its app and cache sizes
  1. Open MacWashing and choose Uninstaller in the sidebar.
  2. Click Show Apps and check Unity Hub in the list.
  3. Click Remove and confirm. Files that may be yours are listed as Possible and stay unchecked.

Uninstall the Unity Editor versions in the Hub first

Do this while the Hub is still installed: Unity’s documentation describes it as the way to uninstall an Editor version.

  1. Open Unity Hub and select Installs in the left sidebar.
  2. Open the Manage menu of an Editor version and choose Uninstall.
  3. Repeat for every version you don’t need.

Uninstall works only for Editors installed through the Hub. For a version you installed yourself and added to the Hub, Remove only takes it off the list and leaves the files on disk: choose Reveal in Finder in the same menu and delete the Editor folder there.

Then delete Unity Hub in Finder

  1. Quit Unity Hub: right-click its icon in the Dock and choose Quit, and quit it in the menu bar too if it has an icon there.
  2. Open Finder › Applications and drag Unity Hub to the Trash.
  3. Enter your administrator password if macOS asks for it.

What Unity Hub leaves behind

After deleting the app, check these places in the Library folder inside your home folder:

  • ~/Library/Application Support/UnityHub — the Hub’s data: its settings, the lists of your projects and Editors, and its own caches.
  • ~/Library/Caches/com.unity3d.unityhub and ~/Library/Caches/UnityHub — the cache.
  • ~/Library/Caches/com.unity3d.unityhub.ShipIt — downloaded updates of the Hub.
  • ~/Library/Preferences/com.unity3d.unityhub.plist and ~/Library/Preferences/com.unity3d.unityhub.helper.plist — settings.
  • ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.unity3d.unityhub — the Hub’s stored web data.

/Applications/Unity/Hub/Editor is where the Hub installs Unity Editor versions by default. If you didn’t uninstall them in the Hub, they are still there, several gigabytes each: delete the folder only if you don’t need any of them. ~/.unity is a hidden Unity folder in your home folder: look inside before deleting it. Your projects are not in any of these places.

Remove the leftovers by hand

  1. In Finder, choose Go › Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), type a path from the list above and press Return.
  2. Move the folder or file to the Trash.
  3. Repeat for the other paths.
  4. Restart your Mac, then empty the Trash.

Unity Hub isn’t the only app that leaves files behind: see how to uninstall apps on Mac completely.

With MacWashing, it’s one click

Uninstaller: a list of apps sorted by size with when each was last opened, Google Chrome selected with its app and cache sizes

The Uninstaller in MacWashing knows the files Unity Hub creates in your Library folder and removes them together with the app. Folders that may hold your own files or the Unity Editor versions are listed as Possible and stay unchecked until you check them yourself.

Questions and answers

Will MacWashing delete my own files when it removes Unity Hub?

No. The Uninstaller checks only what belongs to the app: its settings, caches, logs and background items. Folders that may hold your own files are listed as Possible and stay unchecked until you check them yourself, and apps go to the Trash by default, so you can put them back.

What if Unity Hub is still running?

MacWashing waits for it to quit, or quits it at your request, and only then removes its files.

Is it free to uninstall Unity Hub with MacWashing?

Yes, within the free trial: System Junk and the Uninstaller free up to 25 GB in total, with no account or card needed.

Will uninstalling Unity Hub delete my Unity projects?

No. Each project is a folder in the place you chose when you created it, and the Hub only keeps a list of them. Neither the Hub’s Uninstall nor deleting the Hub touches those folders.

Why is my disk still full after deleting Unity Hub?

The Unity Editor versions are separate from the Hub and stay in /Applications/Unity/Hub/Editor. Uninstall them in the Hub before deleting it, or delete that folder afterwards.

Can I reinstall Unity Hub later?

Yes. Download it again from Unity and sign in with your Unity account. Then add your project folders back and install the Editor versions you need.
